The primary responsibility of this position is to work collaboratively with the customer by providing objective insights and recommendations to enhance category performance.  Analyze and evaluate factors that affect the four sales controllables (Distribution, Pricing, Shelving, and Promotion).  This position addresses time sensitive business opportunities that leverage multiple data sources, tools, analytics, shopper insights, along with a deep understanding of the category & retail environment. 

  • Proactively lead & execute agreed upon customer category objectives through use of shopper insights, data analysis, plan-o-gram development and assortment planning. 
  • Provide expert category analysis utilizing Retail Link and multiple syndicated data sources (IR, IRI, SIA, Pro Space, Spectra). 
  • Lead & manage category review process- internally & with the customer.  Includes areas such as but not limited to data analysis, assortment review, internal research, plan-o-gram development and competitive assessment.
  • This position requires a high degree of customer interfacing. The individual must be able to synthesize their insights & analysis into rationally persuasive communication.
  • Individual will provide analytical support and work collaboratively with sales team to deliver selling stories.  In addition, create scorecards that measure results & track trends on assortment, merchandising, promotion and pricing. 
  • Lead development/create category sales tools and templates to grow business. Maintain retailer database, analysis and reporting.

Requirements:

  • BA or BS in Business or related field
  • 5-7 years progressive experience in the CPG industry
  • Minimum of 3 years of category management experience
  • Ability to work with large amounts of data, understand business implications, develop into a compelling business presentations & effectively communicate
  • Must work well in a team environment & an ability to work cross functionally (strong interpersonal skills)
  • Experience using Retail Link and syndicated data (IRI, AC Nielsen) & space planning software
  • Strong analytical skills and computer skills (Expert in Excel & Power Point and Proficiency in Access)

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Walmart or deep understanding of retailer’s strategy, business needs, & goals
  • Consumer panel experience (SIA, Spectra)
  • Experience working in a category captain or advisor role with a leading retailer
  • MBA degree desired
  • Sales experience
  • Travel required  approx. 5% (3-4 times per year)
